i did some research before getting my hero, and i found almost all good reviews for it…and they were all right. my husband bought me one from gsmallover.com and i couldn’t love him more for it. i absolutely love how customizable it is. i love taking pictures of our family and being able to use them as my background. i had each of my family members record their own ringtones for me :). the phone is very stylish, and durable as well. i am in love with it!

Hi Chris, I found a solution to it already. Just to share with puzzled HERO or SENSE users, you can access to high quality youtube video on websites (Embedded ones) by using Dolphin Browser.

Best Browser for any andriod phone!

For the first part, yes. That’s possible. HTC is very customisable and personalisation is great as well.

Secondly, you can set any music you have stored in your memory card as your ringtone. You have to purchase the music but not the action of putting music as ringtone. If not any music in your memory card can become a ringtone.

Editing songs through HERO is not possible. I’m not sure if such an application is available in Android market. You can search in it if you need. If not you can choose to edit music through your computer using softwares like Audacity to help trim the music portion you prefer, then put that edited song of yours in the memory card and set it as the ringtone in HERO.

Hope this helps!

There are a few apps that you can download from the market. More than you need actually.

Most apps allow you to do chatting across msn, yahoo messenger, facebook etc.

I would recommend Meebo or Ebuddy.

Just go to the Market and search for this names and that would do!

Hope this helps!

Hi Chris,

I’m currently using HTC Magic after getting a SENSE upgrade provided free by HTC. I assume that with the similar specs, differences between Hero and Magic shouldn’t be great, especially when it comes to apps.

I’m having difficulty watching embedded youtube videos or youtube videos on the desktop site (not Touch or Mobile mode) in high quality.

The HTC flash player is activated for playing of videos but that itself does not allow high quality video. I’m wondering if there’s anything I can do to rectify this.

Do you also experience something similar?

Thanks a great deal Chris!

Hey Chris, I am a user of windows live messenger and use it often, i was just wondering if there is an app for the hero that lets you use windows live (msn). Great review though.

hey. im really looking into getting a hero and just have afew questions:
1. the backround. am i able to use a picture i have taken with the camera, or put on the phone from my computer and set it as a “wallpaper” ?

2. in here, you stated i could take a song on my media player and set it as a ringtone. i just want to be clear and ask how i would do that? are you saying i dont actually have to purchase ringtones? is there a way i could edit the song, so when my phone rang, it would play at a certain part?

great review. answering my questions would be greatly appreciated!

As a US Sprint customer, my options have been mostly limited to WinMobile, Blackberry, and Palm. Not interested in blackberry … although i currently own a Palm Centro … although it is a reasably good phone, i have not been suitably impressed with the OS or freeware apps . Yes i said it FREEWARE. There … WinMobile had the market cornered! My mogul was a wonderful little computer … despite the frequent need for soft resets … but a really cruddy phone. When i read about Android i got all excited … but … alas no phones on the Sprint network.

Enter the HERO …

My heart is all a twitter and anxiously awaiting Oct 11 … hoping to learn all i can about android before then … so i can get my little hands dirty!! Share your review with me at http://www.HTC-Hero.com a site for HTC Hero fans.

It’s unlikely to have been the Magic, Greg – that’s not available on the Sprint network. The Sprint Hero looks different from the GSM model (pictured in this review); check out our Sprint Hero review for photos:

I just went to pick one of these up to replace my iPhone, but the Sprint store and Best Buy are both selling the Magic but calling it the Hero. What’s the deal with that? How do you get this phone?

Unfortunately not, Alexey; as far as I’m aware there’s no video-out from the Hero. ExtUSB does output stereo audio, I believe, though you’ll need one of HTC’s adapters – it’s not included in the box.

Thank you for the review. A little question :)
Does Hero have an analogue video/audio output through ExtUSB?
