We’re not cellphone manufacturers, but we can’t imagine there’s much more disheartening to hear reviewers suggest your latest handset “isn’t ready for primetime”. Unfortunately for Motorola, that’s just the conclusion the Boy Genius Report have come to in their CLIQ preview, with the handset’s power-gobbling ways being the prime suspect for their dissatisfaction.

I’ve had many discussions with Motorola pertaining to Cliq’s battery performance — and was assured that it’ll get me through a “normal” day. I’m skeptical so we’ll know sooner or later when our review unit drops.
I plan on buying a few extra batteries when I get mine.
I just got my cliq and I love it!…except for the battery issue. It really does drain fast. What can i do to minimize battery drain. Should I shut off the Social Networking functions?
Why do people insist on bashing everything online. These guys must not test many smartphones. I just got the cliq, which is my third of the newer smart phones (and second android device). This device performs much better than my G1. I was amazed that I left it connected to wifi all day and didn’t have to charge it between 9am and 9pm. That’s just amazing to me. The G1 connected to wifi and with my favorite widgets on the screen and my podcatcher lasted 3-4 hours on a charge. I guess the author is just thinking about the old days when cell phones had greyscale screens and the battery lasted all week without a charge. Wise up. You’re talking about a 500 mhz computer with cell phone radio, bluetooth, wifi and gps turned on lasting 12 hours on a charge. You’d be crazy to expect more.
