   The Samsung Impression is one of the many phones AT&T dropped a few weeks back that features a full QWERTY keyboard. The Impression stands out from the rest as a full touchscreen device that uses an AMOLED display. The phone mimics many smart phone features, and has a very polished UI that reacts smoothly to the user’s command. It’s honestly a great feature phone, yet the experience using it left me feeling I was using a very limited smart phone, which might be the point. As a result, I was left comparing the Impression to the iPhone, not because the iPhone is so great, but simply because the iPhone is the direct competitor for the Impression, especially at the $199 price tag. Users who are looking at the Impression need to think long a hard and analyze their needs before buying this device.

   The device features a 3.2 inch AMOLED WQVGA widescreen touch display with haptic feedback on top of featuring TouchWiz support, a sliding QWERTYkeyboard, microSDHC exzpansion slot, Bluetooth with stereo audio support, speakerphone with stereo speakers and CrystalTalk noise cancellation, HTML browser, 3.0 nmegapixel camera with autofocus, video recorder, and geotagging, as well as the full suite of AT&T services.

   After checking out both the iphone and Samsung Impression today, the big differnce in functionality is finger tips vs nail tips. The iphone’s screen is “heat sensitive” (or so I’m told) and doesn’t respond to tapping with nails; the Impression does, which is a drag because I really like the iphone apps but after many tries I realize the keyboard would piss me off when constantly mis-striking keys.

   Also, I was told that while you can access the internet w/ the Impression, you’re not able to conduct business on websites i.e. internet banking. Does anyone know if that’s true? Thanks.

   After my previous post, I went out and bought the Impression and I really like it.

   The web browser is a little bit limited but it does include functionality for JavaScript and it can store cookies so you should be able to access almost any well designed website. My local bank has a rinky-dink website that’s hard to navigate with this phone – but other major banks, like USAA.com which I use, have special “Mobile” versions of their site set up that are fully functional and easy to use on the impression.

   If you plan on doing a ton of business on the web you might want to get a “smart” phone with a full browser (like the iPhone has) — otherwise, the impression is good for casual browsing. I use mine quite frequently to check sports score and update my facebook page.

   The use of the $199 price tag as a basis for concluding that the Impression should be compared with the iPhone is just plain silly, and the reviewer should know better. As a previous commentor pointed out, the net cost of an iPhone is $360 more than the Impression. And if you want GPS, as I do, the iPhone will cost an additional $10 per month, because AT&T Navigator is included with the $15-per-month data plan for the Impression, but is not included with the $30-per-month data plan for the iPhone – go figure. So the iPhone is actually $480 more expensive than the Impression over the two-year life of the contract. That’s a healthy chunk of change, and it completely invalidates the most fundamental premise of this review.

   I am able to do Internet Banking with the Samsung Impression. I am very happy with this phone. The option between a touch key board and the qwerty key board is great. It all depends on my mood and whether or not I can hit the keys correctly on the touch screen.
   I have had the Black Jack 2 and found this to be a great upgrade for my purposes. Samsung carries, in my opinion, great products. I have never had a major problem with the products I have purchased.

   I just bought this phone a few days ago. The screen is vibrant and the colors are excellent, the navigation is for the most part pretty user friendly. My biggest issue so far has been that you are unable to change the background wallpaper for the phone when it is in “lock” mode. Also, that when you are in the message section of the phone, it doesn’t show how many messages have been received or sent, causing a problem if you are on a limited text plan. Lastly, the phone is a little challenging to slide out when you are holding it because of the design.
